"One thing that consistently seems to surprise people is how little we burlesque performers are hit on after shows. Men are generally very respectful and polite."

So very, very true! I must have been living in the burlesque bubble for so long now that in my years of performing, it never even crossed my consciousness that I *could* get hit on.

Greetings! I am hoping to come to the opening of Nakadate's movie in Feb., since it's bound to be interesting. Given her earlier work, I was thinking of inviting students from my school's (college's) Ethnic and Gender Studies program to come along. I have not seen the movie, however, and so thought I could ask you--since you have!--does the movie deal with gender issues or questions of male/female power, control, self-image, as does some of her other work? That is, do you think a group of Ethnic and Gender Studies students, having been brought to this movie, will walk out scratching their heads, and asking, "why did you bring _us_ to _this_ movie?" or will they have lots to talk about within the topic of Ethnic and Gender Studies on the ride home from Kansas City? Can you tell me a little more about the film? I've read about a number of her other works, but haven't found much about this one. (I don't need to know if Darth Vader is Luke's father, if you know what I mean, but some idea would help. I'm also thinking of inviting art and philosophy students. Am I crazy?) Thanks.

Can't say as though I've ever thought along those lines. Of course, it might have something to do with the fact that most people don't want to see me in pasties. :-)
